In the next of our series on Far Eastern plant we look at Guava or Psidium guajava. In folk medicine, extracts of roots, bark, and leaves are used to treat gastroenteritis, vomiting, diarrhoea, dysentery, wounds, ulcers, toothache, coughs, sore throat, inflamed gums, and a number of other conditions (Morton 1987). This plant seemed worthy of an in depth review. â€Å"Guava leaves extract as main ingredient in making Herbal Soap for washing wounds† Introduction: WALA HAHA 😀 Background of the Study: Nowadays, people have using different herbal soap that are expensive and less effective.The researcher aims to make an effective and cheaper herbal soap. Like guava leaves , it contains both major antioxidant pigments, carotene and poly phenols giving them high dietary antioxidant value among plant foods. Guava leaves has a benefits in making herbal soap because it has that properties that can make the skin look good and protects the skin. Statement of the problem: The resear cher aims to answer the following questions: 1. ) Is the guava leaves extract effective in making herbal soap? 2. ) Does guava leaves extract effective for washing wounds? Hypothesis: 1. The guava leaves is effective in making herbal soap. 2. ) Guava leaves extract is effective for washing wounds. Significance of the study: The significance of the study is to have a beneficial usage of guava leaves. Specifically on the fresh green leaves. This study also aims to produce an affordable herbal soap by making use of the natural properties of guava leaves extract. This product is more on natural properties that can cure skin infections like skin allergies, rashes and skin itchiness and does not mix with chemicals that may damaged our skin. Scope and Limitations:This study needs furthermore improvement , research and also this study is only limited on the use of caustic soda because we all know that to much of caustic soda may cause skin itchiness. Definition of terms: Guava- is a genus o f about 100 species of tropical shrubs and small trees. Antioxidant- is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. Pigments- is a material that changes teh color of light it reflects as a result of selective color absorptions. Carotenoids- a pigment essential for good vision angd precursor to Vit. A. Pol phenols- were one briefly known as vit.P which are a group of a chemical substances found in plants. It is native in Mexico , as well Central America, Northern America and parts of the Carribeanbut not cultivated throughout the tropics. In Tagalog , name bayabas are probably local renditions of guayaba. Numerous references inmedical research identify guava as Psidium Guajava. Psidium guajava are cultivated in many tropical and subtropical countries for their edible fruit.Psidium Guajafa are often considered superfru its , being rich in vit. A and C and other properties. Its leaves contained antioxidant pigments,carotenoids and Polyphenols that are good components in turning our skin healthy. Since the 1950's , guva , prticularly its leaves , has been a subject for diverse research in chemical identity of its constituents, pharmacological properties and history in folk medicine . For example , from preliminary medicinal research in laboratory models , extract from guava leaves are implicated in therapeutic mechanisms against cancer , bacterial infections , inflammation and pain and skin disorder.Essential oils from gauva leaves have shown strong anti-cancer in vitro. In folk medicine , guava leaves are used as a remedy for diarrhea, and for their supposed antimicrobial properties. Its easy to get the components of guava leaves when it is apply in a form of a soap. Methodology: A. Guava Decoction We have to gather 50g of fresh green guava leaves, 250 mL of water and boil it for about 10 mins. * M aterials one-half cup of oil, 3tbsp. caustic soda, 500mL of water and guava leaves extract   B. Preparation of Soap From the materials gatherd , set aside guava leaves extract.Mix 500mL water and vegetable oil and stir for 30mins. Combine the guava leaves extract to the solution of water and oil, stir for 30mins. add 3 tbsp. caustic soda stir for another 30 mins. Put in a molder and place in a safe area that can't be expose by the sun. C. Soap Cutting: Cut the soap acc. to the size of the molder. D. Testing the soap: After 15 days the soap will be use either preventive or cure. The respondents to this is the people who have skin wounds. It will be apply in the skin when they take a bath. E. Observation: The researcher had observed that the wounds heal faster. * The soap speeds up the regeneration of the wounds. Make a strong, concentrated infusion or decoction of your desired herbs. Use 2 to 3 times the amount of plant matter to water you would normally use for tea. . You can use a pan as small as 2 quarts to make the cough syrup. * 2 Chop up some elecampane root into small pieces. Elecampane root is a natural cough suppressant and the whole root can be purchased at a health foods store. If you cannot find it, you can substitute ginger root. Add the root pieces to the boiling water. * 3 Boil the root for several minutes until it starts to become soft. Then, squeeze the juice from half a lemon and add it to the mixture.You can add juice from an entire lemon if you can stand the taste. * 4 Add a couple spoonfuls of honey to the cough syrup. The honey not only will soothe the throat, it covers up any unpleasant taste in the cough syrup. You can use anything else you desire to improve the taste such as sugar or peppermint. * 5 Pour in a couple spoonfuls of your favorite whiskey if you desire. The whiskey helps you relax and sleep and is good for a nighttime remedy. * 6 Make the cough syrup fresh every 4 to 6 hours and drink while your symptoms persist.

To Free the Slaves When the nation was founded, the southern stated favored slavery and the northern states did not. Had the presidents that came before Abraham Lincoln stood up and made the much needed change, then it would not have fallen on Lincoln’s shoulders to stand up and free the slaves. Because this duty was laid upon him, Lincoln took many steps to abolish slavery. Among the many things that he did was to stand up during the Civil War, enact the emancipation proclamation, and pass the 13th amendment. Had he not taken these steps to abolish slavery, history would have been completely different, and the road to civil rights would have been delayed longer than the hundred years that it took to begin achieving equality. On November 6, 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected the President of the United States; this event caused outrage among the southern states. Because Lincoln had run on anti-slavery, the southerners believed that they no longer had a place in the Union. By February 1st, 1861 seven states had seceded from the Union. The seceded states collaborated to create the Confederate States of America and elected Jefferson Davis as their president. Lincoln decided to fight because he felt that it was his duty as the president to preserve the union. During his first inaugural address he appealed to the rebellious states to rejoin the union. (Civil War) The Civil War began on April 12th, 1861 in South Carolina at Fort Sumter. The Civil War was not entirely caused by the election of Lincoln. However, it was the primary reason the war broke out when it did. It also in my opinion set the stage for abolishing slavery. At this time Lincoln upheld that blacks could not join the army, however they were allowed to fight for the navy. Many blacks rushed in to fight because; although Lincoln stated that the war was not about slavery, but instead about the union. The African Americans knew this war was about slavery (Handlin). Slaves were escaping in masses, and because there was no consistent law regarding fugitives, commanders could make their own decisions on what to do with them. Some were put to work for union forces, some returned to their owners. Then on August 6th, 1861, the fugitive slaves were considered to be â€Å"contraband of war,† and it was decided that if they fought, and they were found to be contraband of war then they were declared free. As they continued to move south many slaves flooded the north. As a result both white and black northern citizens pulled together, providing aid, and organizing relief. And throughout the war they also organized schools to teach the African Americans to read and write (McPherson). Then in 1862 Lincoln began considering emancipation as a stepping stone toward winning the war. In the south they began to force blacks to build forts, work as blacksmiths, nurses, boatmen, laundresses, and work in hospitals, armories and factories. However, in the north the African Americans who wanted to defeat the slaveholders the most were being turned away from the military, because in the beginning of the war Lincoln did not want the south to believe that the war was about slavery not the not the Union. At this time, if Lincoln declared that the war was about slavery, European public opinion would back the north. On September 22nd, 1862, Lincoln issued the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. The proclamation warned that if the Confederate states did not surrender by January 1st, 1863, their slaves would be freed. Many believed that this was the beginning of the end of slavery. But, they also feared that Lincoln would give into pressure and fail to keep his promise. Then on January 1st, 1863, he issued the final Emancipation Proclamation, freeing all slaves in states that were not part of the union. At this point, the purpose of the war changed; they were not only fighting to protect the union, but also fighting to end slavery. After the final draft was issued, the federal army began to officially accept black soldiers into ranks (Goodwin). A new chapter of history began, when the Thirteenth Amendment passed in January 1865. This Amendment abolished slavery in the United States, and provided that â€Å"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. (McPherson) The Amendment was passed at the end of the war, before Confederate States had rejoined the Union, making it easy to pass. Finally, on April 18, 1865, the Civil War ended with the surrender of the Confederate army. The southern landscape was destroyed, and four million slaves were freed. Former slaveholders faced emancipation with rage, concern, and despair. The sl aves were freed and began to attempt to rebuild their lives. The country then began reconstruction, which held many promises and tragic disappointments for the people of the United States. As part of the reconstruction there were two new amendments added to the constitution. The Fourteenth Amendment, which granted to all people born or naturalized in the United States. And, the Fifteenth Amendment, which said that no American can be denied the right to vote on the basis of race (McPherson). The Civil War paved the way for President Lincoln to abolish slavery in the United States. First he took a stand; he enacted the Emancipation Proclamation, and finally he was able to pass the Thirteenth Amendment. Had Lincoln not taken these steps to abolish slavery, History would have been completely different, and the road to civil rights and equality would have been delayed much longer. We will never know who would have finally stood up if he hadn’t, nor how long it would have taken. However, we do know it would have been different. Would we have had Martin Luther King? Poetry has been around for ages and enjoyed from children to adults alike. Poetry is not just words on paper that imparts data; it is much more than that. At first, it can be construed as a child writing about his alcoholic father and the pain that was inflicted on the small boy by the father’s actions. After rereading the poem, the reader can actually see that the father is frolicking about with his son, he may have had a little too much to drink, but that does not depict alcoholism nor abuse. Roethke was shattered when his father died suddenly of a heart attack, when the young man was only fifteen years old. This poem shows him reminiscing about the good times he had with father. â€Å"White Lies,† by Natasha Tretheway is a touching poem about a young girl dealing with her skin color and trying to find acceptance in a judgmental world. A reader can feel the little girl’s pain, loneliness, shame, and fear as the poem is read. Tretheway mentions colors several times in the poem, which alerts the reader on the importance of color throughout. â€Å"I could easily tell the white folk/that we lived uptown, / not in that pink and green/ shanty-fied shotgun section/ along the tracks.† (7-11) for a little girl to feel so ashamed of whom she is and where she came from is heartbreaking and Tretheway put it into perfect detail. â€Å"My Childhood-Home I See Again,† by Abraham Lincoln is a two-part poem that  deals with the issue of memory and having a sense of ourselves in relation to the past. Lincoln used descriptive words to pull the reader into his life and see what it was like for him to grow up. Lincoln wrote the poem after visiting his home of Pigeon Creek, Indiana in 1844. Twelve years after the poem was written, Abraham Lincoln was elected the sixteenth president of the United Sates. Poetry can tell a story about many things. The poet has a story to tell. How the reader interrupts that story is up to them. The reader may not get out of the poem what the poet put into it. Upon attending an ABC school, Abraham learned how to read, write, and solve arithmetic problems. Lincoln’s first real successful career was as a frontier lawyer, in which he earned about $1200 to $1500 a year. Eventually seeking higher political positions, he became a powerful young congressman. At this time in his life, her first began to have the opportunity to voice his opinions about slavery. He was very much against it, and supported Wilmot Proviso, which proposed that slavery be abolished from Mexico, and he formed other antislavery programs in Washington. Upon returning to his former job as a layer upon the end of his political term, he was able to become a master at the occupation. Around 1854, Abraham began to research the Kansas-Nebraska Act, for he was held an opposing viewpoint of what is stated. He believed the Act did not address how important it was that slavery be abolished, for it allowed people in these two territories to decide for themselves whether or not to allow slavery within their borders. Right after this, Lincoln began involving himself in more debates about slavery, while at the same time trying to get into a political position. He was finally granted his wish to become president on November 6, 1860 defeating Douglas, John Bell, and John C. Breckinridge. Re-elected in for the next four years after this term had ended, he was all the while serving during the Civil War. His view on the war was that he hoped to create a plan to join the nation together, and give the South more right to the slaves. Eventually the Civil War’s end was exactly how he had wanted to terminate, with General Lee surrendering to General Grant in Virginia. The death of President Lincoln was tragic, and was soon following this victorious end of the war. Upon a third re-election as U.S. President, he angered many people who did not like the way he served their country. John Wilkes Booth was one of such people, and he expressed his anger during a performance of â€Å"Our American Cousin† at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, when he assassinated President Abraham Lincoln. Throughout Abraham Lincoln’s life, he was succ essful in politics aided in the progress of our nation. Abraham played many extremely important roles in this particular time period of history, while his most prominent position was undoubtedly President of the United States. During his role in presidency, many Southern states were against his election, including Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. Later four more states were angered and all ten succeeded and left the Union around 1860. With no decision but war, the northern and the southern states were allowed to fight over issues dealing with slavery, rights, and preserving the Union. On January 1st, 1863, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which entitled that all citizens who were slaves up to now are free. The importance of this declaration was not that it freed many blacks in the South, but that it showed Americans that the present war was being fought to end slavery. Besides this major point, the Emancipation Proclamation allowed black men to feel accepted and equal during the war, for they were allowed to hold better positions and could enroll in the Union Army and Navy. The Gettysburg Address was later given by President Lincoln as well, which where he defined the Civil War as a rededication to the ideals of the Declaration of Independence. This was one of his most well known speeches, for the site at which he announced it was a memorial for the death of soldiers. President Lincoln was indeed a significant person to the history of the United States and its overall development. He is probably the President with the most information documented about his life, and he is remembered today as a man who gave touching speeches and who fought endlessly for what he believed in. He always put forth his efforts into ending wrongs and never giving into what is morally wrong. Because he was committed to preserving the Union no matter what the consequences were to himself, it was saved, and because of his patience, timing, calculations, and keenness at solving problems he was able to kill what was left of slavery. Through transforming the president’s role as commander-in-chief and as chief executive of his nation into a more powerful position, presidents from his term in office on were granted supremacy over both the Congress and the courts. His perseverance as a person brought him to have such an influential remembrance of him today, as he started out as a poor boy brought up in the wilderness in a log cabin to obtaining the most revered position of the country in the White House. Although he ended a tragic death, America will never forget his efforts at making America a better place, and will always look towards him as the father of our country. Reflective observation report Reflective Observation Report My observation was of a level two football coach. I attended a session once a week for three weeks with the same group. Staying with the same group was beneficial as I was able to see the development of the athletes and see the full variety of coaching techniques and styles of learning that was applied by the coach. The age group was fifteen to eighteen year olds and the sessions lasted 3 hours. The coach would generally use a variety of teaching styles throughout their sessions. One style used was the cognitive learning style. On a basic drill of finding movement in a limited space some players found it hard to identify where space is often found and how to exploit it. The coach took these players aside and made them view the game from an outside perspective. By making the players view the game and try to solve the problem of limited space, cognitive learning took place. After viewing the drill once over the coach sent the players back in and they showed a visible change of tactics and in the specific game a definite improved level of ability. The coach used a similar technique in a different session. The holding playmaker of the team was struggling with their passing vision. The player couldnt identify when and where to pass to keep possession. The coach realising this set the player homework. The coach gave the player a dvd, which included the basic five areas of a playmakers passing range and had examples of elite footballers performing the set passes. In the next session the player was showed improvement and displayed a calmer performance in the sessions end game. This involved participation, thinking and memory some key traits of the cognitive learning style. When certain players were disobedient the coach was quick to act and make example of the players. Punishments such as press-ups, sit-ups and sprints were all included. These punishments set the tone of the football field. Be disobedient to the coach or other teammates and receive punishment. When doi ng the punishments the other players watched and passively acknowledged how to act on a football field. With this a regular occurrence the players were subject to the behavioural learning style. Learning information based on the environment that an individual is placed in. The environment that the footballers were placed in sets a positive tone of not to be disobedient with the coach or teammates. The sessions I attended were at the early part of the football season. Gaining match fitness was vitally important. The way that this was achieved was done so in a very democratic way. The coach hadnt previously worked with this particular group and was unsure of fitness levels. The coach therefore negotiated the set targets with the players. The captain of the team was at the front of the negotiations. The coach used this as a bonding activity and gained social connection with the players. This inactive passive approach showed the players the level of respect that the coach had for them. This increased the players motivation and the coach had players achieving fitness goals which were set by the players thus easing the pressure off them. One of the more technically difficult drills the coach set up was set piece training. The coach set two teams of defenders and attackers. They were also told to act if in a game situation. This clear use of team based competition was a sign of team based learning. The defenders were left to figure out how best to set up their defensive unit. The attackers would have to make decisions on how best to attack the goal. The ball could either be crossed or shot at from one of the more technically better players in the team. This kind of match environment is a sign of further behavioral learning. The coach let the drill go on and took a passive approach but when the attackers failed to score after a maintained period of time the coach felt it was time to intervene. The coach displayed a simpler option which created more goal scoring chance s. The simple change of tactics developed more chances on goal than before. This is a sign of constructive learning. The coach let them develop a basic structure of attacking the goal but when they reached their limit the coach just gave a few bits of information to help them go slightly more advanced. The attackers learnt a basic understanding themselves and were only developed on when necessary by the coach. Shortly after doing this the coach did the same with the defending team. A simple suggestion of putting two players on the post denied many accurate shots by the attacking team. By allowing the players to steadily improve themselves and only having coach interference when absolutely necessary the coach became a facilitator not a lecturer which is a key trait of constructive learning. By determining the state and needs of the players by intervening to assist in improvement, the coach showed signs of instructional design learning. During the end of the third session the coach ag ain took a passive approach. A drill was set up to inspire freedom and creativity. Samba music was played and the drill was to beat your opponent one on one. Skills and tricks were encouraged to develop the creativity and flair of the players. This allowance of free roaming and putting faith in the players that they would create and use complex skills was a sign of humanism. To summarize, I believe the coach was of a high level and was able to teach complex drills with ease. I saw a variety of drills taught and a wide range of learning styles incorporated. There werent many set goals in the sessions. Instead there was a more general development of a wide range of skills. Maybe this was due to the coach unsure of how long his placement was with this particular group of players. The key focus of all the sessions was largely dominated by fitness. In doing this the coach showed his primary from of teaching was done in a democratic way. The players were of a sufficient ability to improve on their own fitness and the coach was merely enforcing the idea not the actual practice itself.

The Tiger and The Lamb The Tiger and The Lamb were both poems by William Blake. In this essay I am going to compare the two poems. Blake, as a child, was an outcast and didnt have many friends. He was educated at home by his parents and found sociability difficult. His family believed very strongly in God but did not agree with the teachings of the church. During his lonely hours, Blake often read the Bible. He had a lot of free time to think about ideas, reflect on life and to strengthen his imagination. You could find a lot of biblical discourse in his poems. By the time he was an adult his imagination allowed him to create vivid poetry and paintings; finally sending him mad. Blake published two very famous books of poems called Songs of Experience and Songs of Innocence. Poems from the Songs of Experience are about God, who brought evil and suffering into the world. The poems from the Songs of Innocence are about the redemptive God of the New Testament, namely Jesus. The Lamb is from the Songs of Innocence and The Tiger from the Songs of Innocence. The Lamb is the contrasting poem to The Tiger. The main question that I feel Blake is asking in the two poems is, how can the same God make such a vicious creature but also make such an innocent animal? In The Tiger, God is strong, dark and sinister. He is described as a dark blacksmith, as the following quotation indicates, What hammer? What chaindare its deadly terrors clasp? This quote comes from the end of verse four. The mention of tools and the dark description at the end gives the reader an image of God working in a hot and fiery hell. This image would have reminded readers of the factories associated with the Industrial Revolution. Blake, in verse four uses question... ... Blake describes, Burnt the fire in thine eyes. The word fire, like hell, suggests hot and sweaty. India, the origin of the tiger, is hot and sweaty. The lamb brings a mood of calm, reassuring and happiness as Blake shows By the stream and over the mead. Sheep filled fields and streams appear dreamlike and convey a sign of hope. A sign of hope because while the Industrial Revolution was taking place, open fields were disappearing, smoggy factories multiplied. This particular imagery by Blake, I find to be very effective. Many People believe that The Tiger is mysterious and feel that too much analysis of will spoil the impact of the message.
